James studied Drama and then Cinematography after which he worked his way up through the traditional film ranks. He has worked mainly as a Commercial/Narrative DP for the last 15 years. He has recently added directing to his skill-set, having produced, filmed and directed a few of his own projects over the last few years. This journey has given him an intimate understanding and a very thorough perspective on the film making process.
One of James’ strengths as a cinematographer is his ability to adapt to briefs, coming up with the best lighting solutions and camera language to suit the mood required for the piece. It’s in his fascination with mood, whether light or somber, combined with his passion for narrative and genre (his ability to cut deep into the heart of the story whether it be commercial or narrative) where James’ talents as a filmmaker lie. He has a unique eye and take on life and a passion for filmmaking, with ardour
